John Hacker

Beekeeper / Mentor

John Hacker

John Hacker started Beekeeping in 1935 at the age of 11 and worked only with a veil. He was taught by his father who started in 1906.

John Hacker provided Caroline and Rowena Guthrie with their first swarm. His Dry Drayton apiary had been established and the 'cottage' style hives, based on Nationals, built by his father. He was only a 'phone call away when challenging situations arose.
At 80 years of age John still managed 30 beehives!

The hive is at rest
With it's cluster of Bees
Awaiting Spring's warmth of at least 50 degrees
When they spread their wings,
Enslaved to the hive
All dedicated to the Queen
so the colony survives.
